Summer Teen Reading Program At Library Concludes
Eighth grader Eliza Eggleston won the Grand Prize laser tag party for eight at the Sports Center of Shelton during the final drawing, Monday, August 9, for The Teen Summer Reading Challenge at the C.H. Booth Library. The program awarded 37 raffle prizes to lucky readers in grades 6 through 12 this summer, donated by local sponsors Bagel Delight, Cave Comics, Dunkinâ Donuts, Edmond Town Hall Theater, Francoâs Pizza, Newtown Pizza Palace, Tambascioâs Italian Grill, and the Sports Center of Shelton.
Participation more than doubled compared to previous years, with 85 teens taking part, said young adult librarian Margaret Brown, with one teen reading 32 books during the challenge.
The most popular book of the summer, she said, was Unwind by Neal Shusterman. âThis Teen Nutmeg nominee is about a future world where those between the ages of 13 and 18 can have their lives âunwoundâ and their body parts harvested for use by others; where three teens go to extreme lengths to uphold their beliefs â and, perhaps, save their own lives,â explained Ms Brown. Other popular authors for young summer readers were Suzanne Collins, Stephenie Meyer, J.K. Rowling, and Lemony Snicket.
