Supports Healing Hearts

DANBURY — The York Children’s Foundation recently awarded The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families a $1,000 grant to support its award-winning programs for children who have lost a parent, sibling or grandparent.

Dan Jowdy, director of Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, nominated Healing Hearts to receive the grant.

“Healing Hearts provides much needed help for the children of our community as a demonstration of Regional Hospice’s commitment to grieving children,” said Mr Jowdy.

The Healing Hearts Center for Grieving Children & Families is a program of Regional Hospice. The agency’s Caring Continuum -— CARES at Home, Hospice, and Healing Hearts — provides care, comfort and compassion for those touched by life-limiting illness and loss. Regional Hospice serves Newtown and several other regional communities offering patients and families help with any stage of end-of-life care.

Regional Hospice is an affiliate of Danbury Hospital.

Healing Hearts is completely sustained through grants and donations. Thanks to community support, each year more than 250 children and their parents or caregivers are able to participate in professionally facilitated support groups and workshops.

Healing Hearts nationally recognized programs help children learn healthy ways to cope with the loss of their loved one while developing the skills necessary to rebuild their lives and go forward.
