*MOPPIN’ SAUCE has a two shows set up for this weekend of September, including a gig for the Newtown-based band in its home town. The group will be at Amberjacks in South Norwalk on September 7, and then at Hot Shots II, which is on Mt Pleasant Road in Newtown (up on the hill where Route 25 meets Route 6), on Saturday, September 8.

*A concert-picnic featuring THE HOLDEN TRUELOVE BAND is being planned for Sunday, September 9, at Dickinson Park, also right here in Newtown. In addition to a performance by the 12-year-old Thomaston resident and his band, an opening set will also be performed by Holden’s father and friends. Manny Pavone on lead guitar, Kenny Cavanaugh on drums, Richie Evon on rhythm guitar and Richie Truelove on bass — a/k/a THE MANNY PAVONE BAND — will open the stage Sunday afternoon. The show’s conclusion will be a performance by both bands on stage together, doing “Johnny B. Goode.”

The event will include a pig roast plus hot dogs, hamburgers, and other picnic-style food. Tickets are available in advance for $10 per person by calling 203-888-7008 and leaving a message, or at the gate for $15.

*Connecticut Songwriters Association will be hosting a meeting on Tuesday, September 11, at Ramada Inn in Danbury. The guest speaker will be LUCINDA DUDECK, the Newtown native who continues to keep her own performing and recording career on track while also managing others through her full-service, Danbury-based management and promotional agency Essey Entertainment.

Her September 11 program for CSA will be “Music Management & Self Management for the Performing Musician.” She will, according to her September-October newsletter, be speaking about her experiences in music management as well as her approach to her career and the music industry. The program is also expected to cover the role of an artist manager, what to look for, what to expect, who does and who does not need a manager, and how to self manage.

The meeting will run from 7:15 to 9 pm and like all CSA meeting-programs, non-members are welcome. CSA can be contacted by calling 860-945-1CSA (1272). The group’s president is Paul Chapin, and while the association may be based in Watertown, it presents monthly meetings and special programs all over the place. The Danbury program on September 11 and then a CSA showcase at Acoustic Café in Bridgeport on September 19 (2926 Fairfield Avenue; call 203-333-3655 for directions) is a perfect case in point. For anyone who really wants to keep score, the October program will be in Old Saybrook, the November one will be in Waterbury, and the December program will be in Mystic. The showcase is monthly, and always at the Bridgeport café.

Lucinda and CSA were co-guests, incidentally, on last month’s edition of CyberStationUSA.com’s “Songwriters Network” program. Lucinda will be returning to that program on October 20 for the full run of the three-hour show.

In addition to that appearance, Lucinda has a pair of local shows coming up in October. She’ll be the featured performer at Sweet Harmony’s Coffee House in Marble Dale on Friday, October 12 (8-10 pm at St Andrew’s Church, corner of Route 202 at Wheaton Road, at the traffic light; call 860-868-2275 for details). This will mark the singer-songwriter’s debut at this particular venue, where JOHN GORKA happens to be playing tonight (Sept 7, 8 pm, tickets are $18). After that Lucinda will be at Borders Books*Music*Café, 110 Federal Road in Danbury (telephone 798-1100) on Friday, October 12, for an 8 pm show.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks, c/o Bee Publishing Co., 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown 06470, or shannon@thebee.com; or call The Bee office at 426-3141.

Shows listed on the calendar at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
