Harvest The Fall Bounty: Garden Club Program Preview

On Wednesday, September 12, Carole Miller from Topmost Herb Farm will be giving a presentation entitled “Harvesting the Fall Bounty.” The program will be offered at the Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road in Sandy Hook, and will begin at 7 pm. (Note that the meetings are starting at an earlier time than in the past.) The event is being sponsored by The Town & Country Garden Club.

Ms Miller will discuss a primary issue of gardeners in the fall season which is: “Now that I’ve grown it, what should I do with it?”   She will cover such topics as what herbs to dry, how to create herb butters and vinegars, as well as answer questions from the audience.

Topmost Herb Farm is located in Coventry, and is a well-known grower of medicinal and culinary herbs.

Herbs are grown according to organic standards, without pesticides or commercial fertilizers. The plants owe their robust healthy and vigor to organic potting mix, seaweed and kelp mixtures, herbal plant teas for insect and disease control, and additions of farm generated compost. They are available in the greenhouse form May through September.

This year the farm also offered a selection of heirloom tomatoes that ranged in color from pink to purple and yellow. Ms Miller also offers glass jars filled with Topmost Tea, a relaxing, aromatic blend of organic spearmint, lemon verbena, and lavender.

The Town and Country Garden Club offers their programs free of charge and the public is invited. Call 426-5359 for additional information.
