Lunch And Learn, BP Screening At Ashlar

A free Lunch and Learn Program to help you “Get Moving with Arthritis” will be held on Tuesday, September 18, from noon to 1:30 pm, in the Lodge Room at Lockwood Lodge Assisted Living at Ashlar of Newtown.

Arthritis is not just one disease; it is a complex disorder that comprises more than 100 distinct conditions and can affect people at any stage of life. As many as one in three adults in the United States currently suffers from chronic joint symptoms or arthritis, with two of the most common forms being osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Sue Nesci, MS, MA, will offer a comprehensive overview of arthritis, including the various types and treatments available. The program will also include an interactive demonstration of the Arthritis Foundation’s exercise program, which features the use of balls and elastic resistance bands to help ease the pain and stiffness of arthritis.

Ms Nesci is the chief public health and policy officer for the Northern and Southern New England Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation, where she oversees public health and advocacy programs in five New England states the chapter serves. Ms Nesci is also a former national vice president for the Arthritis Foundation and has been with the organization for 22 years.

Ashlar of Newtown sponsors the Lunch and Learn series, which provides the public with important and timely health and wellness information. There is no fee for the program, which includes a complimentary lunch served at noon, followed by the presentation at 12:30 pm.

Seating is limited, however, so reservations are necessary; call 364-3109. Calls will be returned only if the seating limit is exceeded.

The same day, Ashlar of Newtown’s Nursing Department will sponsor a free blood pressure screening, from 10 am to noon in, the Lockwood Lodge Wellness Center, 139 Toddy Hill Road,.

The screening will be conducted by a licensed nurse who will have free blood pressure information. Remember, you can have high blood pressure and still feel fine.
