Residents Joining SAR & DAR Ceremony

The Newtown branch of The Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) will join the Mary Wooster chapter of the DAR and the Reverend Ebenezer Baldwin branch on September 15 for a dedication ceremony to mark Rev Baldwin’s grave at Danbury’s Wooster Ceremony.

There will be a small honor guard present in costume who will fire their rifles, Mayor Mark Boughton of Danbury will be present and speak, and Newtown resident (and SAR member) Richard Hubert will be in Colonial costume to deliver excerpts from one of the pastor’s most moving sermons, which dates back to November 16, 1775. A history of the life and death of Rev Baldwin will also be offered.

The ceremony is scheduled to start at 2:15 pm and is expected to last approximately 45 minutes. It has been organized by the Danbury/Mary Wooster DAR chapter.

The public is welcome, and Colonial attire or jacket and tie is suggested for attendees.

Wooster Cemetery is on Ellsworth Avenue.
