UConn Stamford Honors Newtown Resident

STAMFORD — The recipients of the second annual UConn Stamford Recognition Awards were announced recently by UConn Stamford Campus Associate Vice Provost Dr Michael Ego. The awards were presented at a Town Hall meeting at the campus’s General Re Auditorium on Wednesday, August 22.

Newtown resident Dr Charles Yarish, professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, received the Faculty Recognition Award, which recognizes sustained outstanding achievements in teaching, research and/or services benefiting the Stamford Campus. Dr Yarish, who has been teaching at UConn Stamford for 30 years, was selected by a peer review committee.

Dr Yarish, a professor of biology, has helped numerous students, both undergraduate and graduate, develop and complete research projects. Dr Yarish is particularly interested in phycology, the study of seaweeds, and aquaculture.

He has been a visiting professor in the Netherlands and Germany and a guest professor in Shanghai. He has collaborated with groups around the world on aquaculture projects.

Dr Yarish has served as a manuscript reviewer and a grant reviewer, and has written numerous books, technical reports, and journal articles.
