Lightning Compete In Ridgefield

The Newtown Lighting U12 boys’ travel soccer team competed in the Labor Day SCOR Warm-Up Tournament in Ridgefield this past weekend. Game results are as follows:

Ridgefield Black 6, Lighting 2: Newtown was overpowered by a strong Ridgefield team. The Lighting’s first goal of the season was scored by Aidan Schmid and Alex Hagischi added the second tally. Brian Montoya and Declan Sughrue offered a strong defense.

Lighting 2, Ridgefield Orange 0: Ty Dickinson scored both goals for Newtown in this match. Keeper Thomas Hartley defended the goal against two penalty kicks and other efforts by the Orangemen.   Alex Delp, Cory Furrier, and Miles Martiska had solid performances in the win.

New Canaan Red 5, Lighting 0: New Canaan scored within the first two minutes of this game and dominated most of the tilt. Jackson Dooley and Travis Huzin were on the attack and Garrett Mandarano played great defense against New Canaan’s corner kicks.

New Milford Americas 4, Lighting 0: In the last game of the tournament, Newtown its their own in the first half with New Milford scoring only one goal. Newtown’s defense included Sean Connor and Issac Silverman. Thomas Briscoe made several strong attempts at the opponent’s goal but the New Milford defense was too strong.
