WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Phillips Collection will host an Artful Evening gallery talk, “Inventing Modernism from Chardin to Matisse,” on September 20 as part of its Thursday extended hours from 5 to 8:30 pm. Gallery talks are at 6 and 7.

Born more than 150 years apart, both Jean-Simeon Chardin and Henri Matisse are considered pioneers in the development of modern art. The evolution of Modernism will be explored in this gallery talk.
