Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown will be holding in-person and drive-through food collections this month.

Donation bags have been picked up by members of the town’s synagogue and filled during this season of Rosh Hashanah. Filled bags are being returned by September 19.

The public also has an opportunity to help with this important collection. Members of the synagogue will also be collecting food on Sunday, September 19, between 10 am and noon, in the Adath Israel parking lot, 115 Huntingtown Road, from anyone who prefers that option. Donations will then be delivered to Newtown and Monroe food banks by members of Adath Israel’s Care & Share Committee.

Food drives play an important role in Adath Israel’s commitment to tikkun olam, a Jewish concept that promotes acts of kindness to better our communities and the world we live in. Drives such as these are an important source for pantries to enable them to help many of our neighbors as COVID-19 continues to make life challenging for all.

Over the last several years, Adath Israel has donated a large quantity of food to the area’s food pantries.
