To the Editor:

Joan Plouffe is proud to be serving Newtown as a member of the Police Commission. The Police Commission is not only Newtown’s traffic authority; it also appoints and oversees the Chief of Police and the police officers, and sets police department policy. Joan’s training as a lawyer makes her a perfect fit for this position; she has a deep and thorough understanding of the law and the legal system.

Joan is smart, dynamic, and organized, but she’s also patient and compassionate, tremendous assets when dealing with the safety and needs of community members. She is the only woman on the Police Commission; the women in our community have a unique perspective on the needs of its people.

Joan is deeply committed to Newtown and to serving the community she loves. She’s had a significant impact on our town: she helped work towards voter approval of the new police station and hopes to see that project through to a timely completion. She has tremendous respect for our police chief and for the officers on the force; she’s been working with them for the last two years, and she knows how lucky we are to have such dedicated people working for the safety of Newtown.

Our police chief and force, and our town, deserve the best Police Commissioners. Newtown deserves a commissioner who represents the entire community.

On November 5, vote for Joan Plouffe for Police Commissioner!
