Occupation: In the summer of 2018, I started Blue & Gold Tutoring because I needed a summer job. I put an ad in The Newtown Bee and started getting calls as word began to spread. I had to begin hiring other high school honor students and manage advertising, billing, and scheduling. We’ve been growing and have expanded past Newtown and are starting to tutor in Southbury now. We’ve been at the past few Reed and middle school parent teacher conferences and open houses, handing out flyers.

Our focus is tutoring local students in second through eighth grade. We tutor in pretty much every subject. It started in math, and that’s what the majority of our students need help in. We also work tutoring students in English, science, and foreign language for middle school students taking Spanish and French.

Family: My dad, Tom, and my mom, Daryl, both grew up here in Newtown. I also have a brother named Marc. He is in seventh grade right now at the Newtown Middle School.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I’ve lived in Newtown since I was 2½ years old, so most of my life — as long as I can remember.

What do you like to do in your free time? I spend a lot of time tutoring, but I also do some cooking. I like to barbecue. It’s a lot of fun. I also play lacrosse at Newtown High School and am the captain of the wrestling team.

Do you have a favorite book? A book I really like is River of Doubt [by Candice Millard]. I really liked the subject. It’s about Theodore Roosevelt and his journey down the Amazon.

What is your favorite travel destination? For lacrosse, I go up to Vermont a lot, and I’ve always liked it up there. It’s a really nice place.

What is the best part about Newtown? It’s got to be the people. They’ve responded well to the business, and they care about their family’s education.

If you could spend the day with one person, who would you choose and why? I’d have to say Elon Musk. I’d love to talk to him and gain advice. I’m planning on going to school for engineering, and he’s one of the most famous entrepreneurs.

Do you have a favorite TV show? Seinfeld.

What is your favorite food? Definitely barbecue. Pork shoulder is my specialty.

What is the greatest piece of advice you have ever been given? “Work hard and stay focused, because nothing happens overnight, and mistakes are only teaching moments.” My dad says that a lot.

What is something you cannot live without? I do spend a lot of time cooking with barbecue smoke.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Blue & Gold Tutoring. It’s done pretty well, relative to what I set out for. I am very excited for the future of the business and hope that Blue & Gold Tutoring can continue to help local students for many years.

What organizations are you part of in Newtown? I founded the Engineering Club at the Newtown High School. We started my sophomore year, and this year I’m a senior. We compete in national challenges for engineering. I’m looking into schools for engineering.
