U8

Rockets 4, Lightning Strikes 2: The Rockets played well as a team, led by Hannah Daly and Jane Shearin on offense and special hustle of Emi Rosenthal and Meghan O’Rourke throughout the game. The Lightning Strikes were led on offense by Megan Riccardi and Mary Sortino, who each scored a goal; Taegan Smith was steady on defense and Riley Burns made some acrobatic saves in goal.

Blue Crushers 2, Lightning 1. For the Lightening, Carlie Smith played an excellent overall game, scoring the Lightning’s only goal. Ellie Moxham played well in goal, deflecting a number of scoring attempts from the opposition, while Cameron Powers continued to exhibit strong defensive skills throughout the match. For the Blue Crushers, Shannon Jackman scored two goals. Lindsey Booth played well on offense with several fast breakaways. Jillian Carrino and Meghan Delp did an outstanding job on defense. Katherine Dirga did a great job at moving the ball down the field.

Wildcats 3, Mustangs 2: Kaley Meisenheimer (two goals, one assist) and Colleen Phaneuf (one goal) demonstrated strong ball control while leading the Wildcats attack. Hannah Groonell and Emma DiNallo both played a great all-around game. Kaia Gioffre anchored the Wildcats defense. For the Mustangs, Olivia Oltran and Aniko Walsh both scored. Kaitlyn King anchored the defense as a sweeper. Angela Carriero controlled the midfield. Emily Tressler had many saves.

Net Rippers 2 Blue Breeze 6: For the Net Rippers, Anna Romano and Annie Morosky fought hard on the field, while Brigitte Marino was stellar in goal. Faith O’Hara scored two for her team. For the Blue Breeze, Mary Celentano, Gabriella Sadowski, Sophia Bajcer, Morgan Seras, and Maddie Stites scored their first goals of the season. Natalene Sim was outstanding in goal.

U10

Twisters 3, Twisting Vampires 1: For the Twisters, Vanessa Tucker made key saves in goal. Lindsey Gallagher was aggressive on offense, while Colby Troy was strong at midfield. Jackie Matthews had a hat trick with three goals. Isabella Manfredi scored for the Vampires and Bella De Leon was a fierce defender of the goal. Sirena Galati was a strong defender clearing the ball from the offense, and Camryn Findley quickly moved the ball for many assists.

American Eagles 5, Dynamite 1: For the American Eagles, Grace Sholtes had two goals, and was helped with assists from Beth Mottola and Olivia Elkins. Hana Rosenthal scored one goal with the assist help of Cathy Hyeon, Caroline Viselli scored on a breakaway, and Beth Mottola scored the final goal with the help of Kaysie Fisher. Izzy Kaiser played excellent in goal, and Liza Gentrup also played well in the forward position. For the Dynamite, Merije De Wit scored a goal, and was supported by excellent overall play from teammates Sarah Brittin, Madeline Ceci, and Alexis Fortugno.

Dynamites 0, Fairfield 0: Newtown traveled to Fairfield and played to a 0-0 tie. Despite constant offensive pressure, the Dynamites were unable to find the back of the net in part because of several great saves by the Fairfield keepers. Shots on goal were logged by Keeley Kortze, Jenna Lavelle, Rebecca Gavel, Haley Harkins, Audrey Benson, Grace Corcoran, Katie Sailer and Lu Hage. In goal, Katie Sailer had two saves and Jenna Lavelle had a save. Brooke Antous and Alison Kelleher were fierce on offense and the defense refused to give up a goal with aggressive play by Lu Hage, Lauren Carrino, and Grace Corcoran. The Dynamites are now 2-0-1.

Team Smurfs 3, Golden Eagles 3: Claire DuBois scored twice, assisted by Angela Vodola on one, and Veronica Vodola netted the tying goal as Team Smurfs played to a 3-3 stalemate. Erin Walsh also assisted on a score, and Eirenie Athanasoulis was solid on defense. On the Golden Eagle side of the pitch, the soccer sisters Chloe and Zoe Freedman made an impressive Eagle debut, scoring once each to tie the game. Emma Curtis found the back of the net again for the Eagles third goal. Holly LoCascio flew around the midfield feeding the ball to those hungry forwards. Joy Metzger also made a fine Golden Eagle debut.

U11

Panthers 2 Monroe Green 2: The Panthers met a tough Monroe team on the pitch this weekend at home. Alexis Mason got the Panthers on the board first, on a great assist from Audrey Sedensky. The Panthers’ tough defense, led by Sedensky, Catherine Shaw, and Diana Kirkman, kept the Green to one goal in the first half. Kira Kelly, in goal for the Panthers, made several terrific saves to keep the Green at bay. In the middle for the Panthers, Anna Moscovici, Caroline Condon, Mary Hufziger, and Juliett Grover put great pressure on the Green. A second-half score by Bella Jimenez put the Panthers up by one, but a late penalty kick by the Green cemented the tie score.

U12

Ridgefield 5, Dynamite 1: The Dynamite fell in a tough match against the Ridgefield team. In the first half, the game was held close by the strong defense of Brianna Lutz and Katie Elkins. The Dynamite was not able to capitalize on a first half Cassidy Keller penalty kick, with the Ridgefield goalie making a swift save. Newtown’s lone goal was scored by Mallory Lobuglio and was set up by great passing from Ashling Sugarman and Alexandra Manoni. On offense, Maya Neuhoff and Taylor Pare worked to create some scoring opportunities. Amanda Albanesi kept the score down in the second half with some huge saves in goal. Even in a tough loss, team members, including Sophia Albano and Lauren Cirone, exhibited a never-give-up spirit.

Thunder 2, Darien White 1: Newtown earned its first victory of the season in this hard fought contest. Meghan Doyle got the Thunder on the board first when she took a pass from Hailey Conrad and deposited the ball in the upper left corner of the net. Defenders Lauren Beier and Meghan Kelleher were instrumental in keeping Darien scoreless in the first half. After Darien  tied it up midway through the second half, constant pressure on offense by Steph Carr and Ali Manfredi enabled Conrad to find Jessica Maturo for the game-winning tally.

Glastonbury 3, Thunder 0: In the first round of the State Cup, a talented Glastonbury squad jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead. The Thunder stayed positive, regrouped, and then played Glastonbury evenly for the rest of the match. Emily Montoya and Olivia Caplan were steady on defense, while Kendra Dunnigan, Claire Beiter, and Julia Sughrue controlled the midfield. Emily Neave returned from an injury to lead the offense.

U14

Oompah Loompas 1, Twisters 0: In a close well played game, Andrea Rodriquez scored the only goal for the Oompah Loompas. Caroline Cole and Natalie Shaker played an excellent midfield game. Grace Frost, Maryyam Ali, and Mackenzie Macchiarulo led a strong defensive effort for the Twisters. Commendable effort by Caitlin Filiato as striker with determined midfield play by Mary Kate Malin. Persistent defense by Rachael DiCristina and Taylor Clomiro, and solid goaltending was demonstrated by Alexis Tucker.

SWAT 1, Smiters 0: Raquel Crespo broke the tie in the second half to deliver SWAT the win. Zoe Ivan played tirelessly on defense. Megan Olszewski and Ajene Arokium both played well in goal, and Chloe Blakeman played a good game. For the Smiters, Megan Nahmias, Chelsea Piccirillo, and Geralyn Klein were strong at midfield, while Stephanie Haas and Haley McNulty provided lots of pressure on the forward line.

Boys

U8

Vipers 3, Titans 0: On Sunday the Vipers defeated the Titans in a well-fought game. Scoring for the Vipers were William Swierbut and Thomas Armstrong, with an assist from Steven Cheh. Brandon Lutz and Ryan Ruddy had strong offensive play, and Justin Zemo had a great game all-around. For the Titans, Karl Miller had a great in goal. Justin DeThomas played a good all-around game.

Golden Eagles 2, Nighthawks 0: The Golden Eagles fought hard for their first win of the season in a 2-0 victory over the Nighthawks. The Golden Eagles goals were scored by Markus Paltauf and Colin Marshall. Assisting on the goals were Jonathan Liberante and Michael Elston. Drew Poseno and Sam Staubly solidified the midfield throughout the game. The Nighthawks played a solid overall game and were led on offense by Richard Qi, Jake Mailloux, and Colin Zhang. The stars on defense were Zachary Riley, Torin Kearney, and Tanner Trede, who was a force all over the field.

Warriors 3, The Champions 0: Bryce Benson scored the first goal of the game and was assisted by Ryan Poupon. Bryce found the inside of the net again with assistance from Jake Pare. Fritz Maurath set up the next goal, which was tapped in by Brandon Manka. Nick Preszler played hard on offense and defense and kept pressure on the opponents. The Champions played a hard-fought game with only six team members, so the Warriors coaches deserve credit for loaning Daniel Delia and CJ Cuomo who both played hard. For the Champions, Zachary Masone, Milan Chand, and Matthew Weisgerber all played with good ball control and had some nice shots on goal. James Ciaramello, Elijah Baraw, and André Boily all played excellent defense, keeping the score low and passing the ball up to their teammates for chances to score. Great sportsmanship was found allover the field from both sides.

Team Nine 3, Team Eight 2: In an exciting 3-2 victory, Team Nine held off a strong fourth quarter attack Sunday to persevere a win. Devin O’Connell offered up two goals with Johnathan Radatovich scoring a third after a determined drive and assist from Ryan Kraus. Team Nine defense was led by Jackson Reinhart in the first quarter and anchored by Steven Vournazos in the fourth.

U10

Thunder 6 vs Cavaliers 6: Perhaps the most amazing comeback game in U10 history! At the end of the first half, the Cavaliers were facing a five-goal deficit. After their mid-game huddle, the team rallied hard and the game went to a final score of 6-6. Kyle Gaynor scored twice for Thunder and Garrett Mandarano, Matthew Blanco, Kyle Duval, and Daniel Reilly also had goals. For the Cavaliers Erwin Grewal had the hat trick, Thomas Shkrelix scored twice, and Alex Delp once, with good midfield support by Ellery McFarland and Benjamin Taylor. Both teams displayed terrific sportsmanship.

Vipers 4 Ridgefield 0: The Vipers played a solid offensive and defensive game against Ridgefield on Sunday. Jackson Dooley, Adam Farley, and Danny Schreiber starred defensively to keep Ridgefield off the score sheet. Goals by Henry Vaughan and Jack McDermott in the first half provided insurance. Sean Arnold played a tough, physical game. In the second half, Bryce Bisset and defenseman CJ Trivers (unassisted) both scored to cement the win. Travis Huzina and Dylan Sock were aggressive on the pitch. Declan Sughrue and Owen Sullivan submitted strong overall performances.

U11

Net Rippers 5, Manchester 2: In the Net Rippers’ first state cup game, the team shut out Manchester during the first half, thanks to superior goaltending by Grant Larson. With Matt Gerbo, Nick Harper, Evan Eggleston, and Brendan O’Hara all finding the back of the net, the Net Rippers entered halftime with a solid 4-0 lead. Strong defense by Hunter Procaccini, Aiden Ford, Silas Decker, and James Barden led the team, but Manchester came back strong second half, with two quick shots. With a minute remaining, Evan Eggleston nailed a great free kick, and the Net Rippers came home with the win.

Brookfield 8, Net Rippers 4: Superhero goaltending by Aiden Ford wasn’t enough to stop Brookfield from dominating the field. The defense was led by Hunter Procaccini and James Barden, with Silas Decker and Ryan Brello relentless on the pitch. Brendan O’Hara, Matt Gerbo (2), and Mark Hall had solid shots that made it past the tough defense. Evan Eggleston ruled the midfield with key plays and lightning speed.

Monroe 5, Net Rippers 4: In a nail-biter of a game, neighboring Monroe went shot-for-shot with the Net Rippers, grabbing one more with only seconds remaining. James Barden was a wall of defense, with Mark Hall and Hunter Procaccini protecting rookie Ryan Brello in goal. Brello stopped 8 shots on goal, and aggressively attacked any ball in the box. Grant Larson had 5 shots on goal, with one getting through. Off Josh Harper’s missile assist, Mark Hall found the net. Aiden Ford and Nick Harper also scored. Silas Decker was strong against Monroe’s offense, and Brendan O’Hara was a massive presence on the field.

U14

A-Team 5, Predators 0: The A-Team defeated the Predators 5-0. The A-Team defense was led by goalies Patrick Olah and Noah Orakwue, who combined for the shutout. Tommie Shaker continued to play outstanding defensive sweeper. Casper De Wit and Kieran Lynch controlled the midfield. The A-Team spread their offensive attack with four players scoring: Dillon Palumbo (two), Sawyer Conrad, Tim Vander Have, and Noah Orakwue. For the Predators, Brandon Rodriguez and Michael Unschuld played great defense. David Csordas had a fine game in goal and Casper Nordman controlled the offense.
