Lyddy Gets Some High Profile Endorsements

By Eliza Hallabeck

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal and State Comptroller Nancy Wyman endorsed Chris Lyddy, the Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 106th Assembly District, during a press conference held at the C.H. Booth Library Wednesday, October 1.

After a half-hour delay from weather and traffic, the press conference started, and Attorney General Blumenthal opened his remarks by listing Mr Lyddy’s abilities that will make him a good state representative for Newtown. Mr Blumenthal said Mr Lyddy is a great listener, has the ability to work with people, and has experience from his social work.

“We’re at a turning point in history,” said Mr Blumenthal, who went on to say that his children are interested in the elections this year for the first time. Mr Blumenthal said qualified and excellent people are putting themselves forward on the frontline as leaders during this crucial time in history, and Mr Lyddy is one of them.

“Chris Lyddy’s election will put him and Newtown on the map statewide,” said Mr Blumenthal.

Around 50 people attended the event in the meeting room at the library for the conference.

Mr Lyddy is a Newtown High School graduate, and he is also a member of the Legislative Council and a number of its subcommittees.

State Comptroller Wyman also had good things to say about Mr Lyddy as she gave a short speech to endorse him before the three went on to address issues regarding approaches to affordable health care, Lyme disease, substance abuse, and property tax.

“It’s about people, it’s about our friends and those who we call our community,” said Mr Lyddy, regarding his views on the issues.

Mr Blumenthal said Lyme disease is underreported by the state, and Mr Lyddy said, “The state needs to step up to the plate.”

Ms Wyman commended Mr Lyddy for his campaign’s attention to the health of children and families.

According to Mr Lyddy, he has been working with Mr Blumenthal and Ms Wyman on the issues discussed at the conference, and he looks forward to working with them more.

After the politicians made their statements, the meeting was opened to public for questions.

In response to a question Mr Lyddy said, “Property taxes is a huge issue that impacts the way we fund education and health care.”
