Nighthawk Swimmers Cruise Past New Milford, Swim Well Against Pomperaug
Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team improved to 3-2 with an 87.5-80.5 victory over visiting New Milford on September 27. The Nighthawks sealed the win with three events to go, and exhibitioned those final few races.
The Hawks then suffered a tough 99.5-86.5 loss to Pomperaug of Southbury on October 1 to move their record to 3-3 overall.
“This was the closest meet of the season as well as the fastest meet the girls swam this season. Even though we lost the meet I could not have asked more from the girls,” Newtown Coach Zach Gauvin said. “In addition to the great meet, the team helped to raise $323 for breast cancer research. This is the second fundraiser of the year and I give the girls a ton of credit for all they’ve done to give back to the community.”
