Volleyball Team Strings Together Wins

Newtown High School’s volleyball team extended its winning streak to six with a trio of triumphs this past week. The Nighthawks improved to 7-2 overall with wins over Brookfield, New Milford, and Kolbe Cathedral of Bridgeport.

The Nighthawks beat host Brookfield 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-17) on September 25. In the win, Kyle Dandrea had 11 kills; Kayla O’Grady added eight kills to go along with six service aces; Cassie Ekstrom had seven kills and five digs; Mylis Post had five digs and four aces; and Meghan Logan compiled 26 assists and added a handful of aces.

Newtown visited New Milford on September 27 and pulled out a hard-fought win, 3-2 (23-25, 25-11, 25-12, 17-25, 15-11). Dandrea and O’Grady both racked up a dozen kills, and Dandrea also notched eight digs; Logan had seven aces to go along with 35 assists; Post had five aces; and Ekstrom, who had eight digs, and O’Grady both chipped in with four aces.

In the team’s visit to Kolbe on September 30, Newtown cruised 3-0 (25-16, 25-9, 25-19). Ekstrom had five aces and four kills; Dandrea had six kills and four digs; and Mackenzie Lapp added four aces to go along with two kills.
