To the Editor:

I write to wholeheartedly endorse Joan Plouffe as she seeks a full term as a member of the Newtown Police Commission. Joan has been volunteering in various ways over the last 20-plus years she has been a Newtowner. Joan has dedicated herself to making our hometown a nicer place to live and raise our children. Joan has worked tirelessly to keep Newtown moving forward because she knows that community matters. Since graduating with her BA from George Washington University and then earning her Juris Doctorate from the Syracuse University College of Law, Joan has been focused on keeping Newtown a safe place for us all to live and work. We should put this educational background to work for Newtown.

Joan is able to see various perspectives when confronted with a challenge. She works to understand all the risks and rewards in public policy and make decisions that will matter to our community.

As a current member of the Police Commission, Joan always looks forward. She dedicates countless hours to understanding the needs of our police force, realizing that we needed a new police station in order to serve our town. She is a voice for our officers, for their connection to the school system, and for the safety and well-being of all of us that love Newtown as much as she does. The Police Commission is stronger with Joan’s voice, our community will be well-served by electing Joan Plouffe to the Police Commission this November 5th.
