On Newtown And Development: Change Some Plans

To the Editor:

I would like to “Second” Janet McGeown’s letter of last week and add an additional thought. While I am not a Newtown native, I have lived here with my family for 40-plus years, so my perspective spans a good amount of time. For various reasons, our roots are firmly planted in Newtown forever.

I’m looking at all the developments at both exits 9 and 11, and my first thought is to wonder why Newtown needs so many services at every exit? We can buy gas, food, and a host of other items at exits 8, 10, and across the river in Southbury. Shouldn’t that be enough? Congestion is already pretty tough at commuter and school times at exit 11.

I hope the powers that be take another hard look at these proposals and maybe change some of these plans.

Respectfully submitted,

John Chion
