Plouffe For Police Commission

To the Editor:

I would like to join others in praise for Joan Plouffe as Police Commission incumbent. In the six years that I have known Joan, her involvement has been the epitome of the phrase “community matters.” In her public service, she has touched both young and old, having served on the Commission on Aging as well as the Strategic Planning Committee for the school district. Whether she was helping me as a Charter Revision Commission member to understand the work of the previous Charter Revision Commission in which she had participated, or stepping up to fill a vacancy on the Police Commission, she has consistently been an advocate for the public good.

Her legal background benefits the commission in that the work and policies of the Police Commission must follow precisely the statues and Federal laws. Additionally, having a legal framework helps the logical discussion of issues that come before the commission. But perhaps most importantly, Joan, as the only woman, provides a perspective unique to the Commission that is not only more representative of our community, but also of the women in blue.

For those reasons, I hope you join me in supporting Joan in returning to the Police Commission.
