While some states have done away with Columbus Day, or changed the observation to honor Indigenous Peoples Day, the State of Connecticut continues to follow the lead of the federal government this year observing October 10 as a national holiday.

All Town of Newtown offices will be closed on Monday, October 10, in observance of Columbus Day. Town boards and commissions will not meet October 10.

Newtown Senior Center and C.H. Booth Library also will be closed.

The transfer station on Ethan Allen Road will be closed. (The transfer station is regularly closed to the public on Mondays. It will not be open on Columbus Day for commercial service.)

The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail on Monday.

The office of The Newtown Bee will be open.

While some states have done away with Columbus Day, or changed the observation to honor Indigenous Peoples Day, the State of Connecticut continues to follow the lead of the federal government this year observing October 10 as a national holiday.
