Luecella H. Arcuri

Luecella H. Arcuri, 75, wife of the late Carmen T. Arcuri, of Mile Hill Road

South, Newtown, died September 27 in Danbury Hospital.

She was the mother of Richard J. Tondreau and Luecella Tondreau, both of

Newtown.

She was born in Sommerville, Mass., June 22, 1924, a daughter of the late

Harry and Rebecca (Lantz) Putney. Mrs Arcuri was a resident of Newtown since

1969 and was employed as a nurses aide at Ashlar of Newtown before her

retirement. She was a member of St Rose of Lima Church and the American

Association of Retired People.

In addition to her son and daughter, she is survived by two other sons, Joseph

A. Tondreau of Port Chester, N.Y., and Paul Tondreau of Gloversville, N.Y.;

two brothers, Richard Putney of Carver, Mass. and Harry Putney of Fall River,

Mass.; four sisters, Ruth Ireland of Arlington, Wash.; Audrey Sawkiewicz of

Norwood, Mass.; Alice Talty of Newton, Mass., and Barbara Procopio of

Littleton, Mass; and three grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 2 at 9:30 am from the Honan

Funeral Home, 58 Main Street and at 10 am in St Rose of Lima Church for a Mass

of Christian Burial. Interment will be in St Rose Cemetery.

Friends may call Friday, October 1, from 7 to 9 pm.

Betty P. Holmes

Betty P. Holmes, 75, wife of the late Robert Holmes, of Heritage Village,

Southbury, died suddenly September 27 at Danbury Hospital.

She was the mother of Linda Ballerini and Elaine Coates, both of Sandy Hook.

She was born on January 6, 1924, in Kettering, England, a daughter of the late

Harold and Alice (Greenaway) Hazeldine. A war bride, she moved to the United

States after World War II.

Mrs Holmes had lived in Fairfield for 33 years before moving to Southbury in

1988.

In addition to her daughters, she is survived by two sons, Robert Holmes of

Southbury and Richard Holmes of Prescott, Ariz.; a brother, Hallard Hazeldine

of England; nine grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will take place Friday, October 1, at 10 am at the United

Methodist Church, Sandy Hook, with the Rev Terry Pfeiffer officiating. Burial

will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield.

Calling hours were scheduled Thursday, September 30, from 3 to 5 pm and 7 to 9

pm at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

May (Platt) Mitchell

May (Platt) Mitchell, 95, of Purchase Brook Road, widow of Robert K. Mitchell,

died September 27 at her home.

Mrs Mitchell was born August 1, 1904 in Newtown, daughter of the late Francis

W. and May (Sweezy) Platt.

She was salutatorian of the Class of 1922, the first class to graduate from

Newtown's new high school at the time, Hawley School.

Mrs Mitchell was a retired teacher, teaching in Newtown schools and Training

Schools of Western Connecticut. She was a member and past officer in the PTA,

Red Cross, Garden Club, and the local, state, and national Grange. Mrs

Mitchell was a member of the South Britain Congregational Church, a church

trustee, and a past president of the church's Women's Fellowship.

She is survived by a son, R. Kimberly Mitchell, Jr, of Southbury; a daughter,

Linda Lawson of Watertown; four grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 1, at 11 am at the South Britain

Congregational Church, South Britain Road. Burial will be in the South Britain

Cemetery. There are no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southbury Community Trust Fund, Box

522, Southbury, CT 06488. The family requests you omit flowers.

The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, Route 6,

is in charge of arrangements.

Jennie Silvestro

Jennie Silvestro, 84, of Newtown, and Highland Beach, Fla., died September 27,

at Danbury Hospital. She was the devoted wife of Ralph Silvestro, Sr, for 53

years.

She was born in the Bronx, N.Y., the daughter of the late Peter and Sarah

DeLibro.

Before moving to Newtown, she was a 40-year resident of Southport. She and

Ralph retired in the 1980s from The Westport Food Centre, a family business

that they ran with Ralph's brothers, Joseph and Albert.

Mrs Silvestro was a member of the St Thomas Aquinas Senior Citizens and was

currently a member of St Rose of Lima Church in Newtown.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Ralph Silvestro, Jr, and his

wife Serrie of Fairfield; a daughter, Carol Najpauer and her husband Jim of

Shelton; three sisters, Mary Moccia and Frances Greco of Del Ray Beach, Fla.

and Rose Mallia of Ridgefield Park, N.J. She was also the proud and loving

grandmother of Steven and Laura Silvestro and Michael Najpauer. She was

predeceased by a brother, Anthony DeLibro.

Funeral services took place September 30, from the Shaughnessy Funeral Home,

50 Reef Road, Fairfield, to St Thomas Aquinas Church for a Mass of Christian

Burial.

William McKeon, Jr

William J. McKeon, Jr, 53, husband of Martha (Glasser) McKeon of 19 Sleepy

Hollow Drive, Sandy Hook, died September 27, at Danbury Hospital shortly after

becoming ill at his home.

He was born in Bridgeport on June 14, 1946, a son of Catherine (Shay) McKeon

of Fairfield and the late William J. McKeon, Sr.

A resident of Sandy Hook for 25 years, Mr McKeon was employed as an automobile

and truck mechanic by the Town of Weston.

He was a US Coast Guard veteran of the Vietnam War.

Those who knew Bill knew him as a loyal, selfless friend and a man of grace

and warmth. He was a wonderful father and devoted husband and will be forever

remembered for his kindness.

Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two daughters, Elisabeth and

Sarah McKeon, both of Sandy Hook; a brother, Timothy McKeon of Fairfield; two

sisters, Karen Wade of Florida and Marsha Peters of Tennessee; and several

nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Saturday, October 2, at 2 pm at the Mary

Hawley Inn, 19 Main Street, Newtown. Private burial services will take place

in Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, is in charge of arrangements.

James V. Aurelia

James V. Aurelia, Jr, 66, of Second Park Street, Milford, husband of Phyllis

(Barletta) Aurelia, died September 27 in Veterans Administration Medical

Center, West Haven, after a brief illness.

He was the brother of John Aurelia of Newtown.

He was born in Stratford on May 25, 1933, son of the late James V. Aurelia,

Sr, and Alice (Tuz) Aurelia. Mr Aurelia was a resident of Milford for 25 years

before moving to Bethel, and then recently moving back to Milford. He was a US

Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Seabees. Mr Aurelia

was a heavy equipment operator and owner of the former Green Acres Landscaping

and Excavation of Milford for 20 years until retiring in 1985. He was a member

of the American Association of Retired Persons.

In addition to his wife, Mr Aurelia is survived by two sons, James V. Aurelia,

III and his wife, Lynn, of Milford and Charles P. Aurelia and his wife, Susan,

of Old Town, Maine; two daughters, Julie C. Marczyszak and her husband,

Edward, of Seymour, and Joyce L. Scott of Milford; four grandchildren, Jessica

Marczyszak, Ruth Aurelia, Angelina Scott, and Robert Shea. He was predeceased

by a sister, Marilyn Benham.

Services will take place on Friday, October 1, at 9 am in the Cody-White

Funeral Home, 107 Broad Street, on the Green, Milford. Interment with military

honors will be in King's Highway Cemetery, Milford.

Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, September 30, from 5 to 8 pm.

Stephen Mazuroski

Stephen M. Mazuroski, 24, son of Michael and Natalie (Juchmo) Mazuroski of 15

John Beach Road, Newtown, died September 24 in Danbury Hospital from injuries

suffered earlier in Newtown in an automobile accident.

He was born in South Charleston, W. Va, September 20, 1975. A resident of

Newtown for 19 years, he was a 1993 graduate of Newtown High School. He

graduated from Siena College, Loudonville, N.Y., with an accounting degree in

1997. He was captain of the 1993 Newtown High School football team and played

in the WCC Championship game. He also was on the varsity football team at

Siena College.

For the past two years, he had been employed as an accountant by the firm of

Berkow, Schechter & Company of Stamford.

He is survived, besides his parents, by one brother, Robert Mazuroski of

Newtown and by his paternal grandmother, Mary Mazuroski of Sayreville, N.J.,

loving friend Jean Kelley, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services were held September 27 at St Rose Church, Newtown, for a Mass

of Christian Burial. Interment was at St Stanislaus Cemetery, Sayreville, N.J.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, was in charge of

arrangements.

Thomas Quigg, Sr

Thomas R. Quigg, Sr, 75, of 9 Beaver Street, Danbury, formerly of Newtown,

died September 23 in Danbury Hospital.

He was born in Flushing, N.Y., July 13, 1924, son of the late Joseph and Mary

(Finan) Quigg.

He was a resident of Newtown for more than 35 years. He was employed for 25

years by Fairfield Hills Hospital as a recreational therapist.

During World War II, he served in the US Navy.

He is survived by two sons, Thomas R. Quigg, Jr, of Virginia Beach, Va., and

Patrick D. Quigg of Waterbury; and six grandchildren.

Funeral services were private. Cremation followed.

Arrangements were by the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.
