While some states have done away with Columbus Day, or changed the observation to honor Indigenous Peoples Day, the State of Connecticut continues to follow the lead of the federal government this year observing October 11 as a national holiday.

All Town of Newtown offices will be closed on Monday, October 11, in observance of Columbus Day.

Newtown Senior Center and C.H. Booth Library also will be closed.

The transfer station on Ethan Allen Road will be closed. (The transfer station is regularly closed to the public on Mondays. It will not be open on Columbus Day for commercial service.)

The United States Postal Service will not deliver mail on Monday.

Newtown Community Center will be open its regular hours (6 am-9 pm).

Edmond Town Hall does not have any movies or special events scheduled.

The office of The Newtown Bee will be open.

Local, state and federal entities will all be closed next Monday in observance of Columbus Day.
