*A reminder this week that Ives Concert Park has an early Halloween event planned for Saturday night. Area residents can start celebrating the season early at the “First Apocalyptic Rocktober Zombiefest,” an event featuring festive activities planned for Saturday, October 6, from 7 to 10:30 pm. Tickets are $10 and the event is open to ages 10 and up.

PAT HORGAN & THUNDER ROAD will headline, performing classic rock.

Hosted by zombie Chiller Chucky, the Zombiefest will feature frightening food and brew, a zombie male and female beauty contest, a screening of the horror film Night of the Living Dead, a “Thriller” flash mob as well as an after-dark dance party.

The $10 admission fee will be waived for guests who purchase a $10 raffle ticket. One lucky winner will be able to create their own once-in-a-lifetime trip to wherever they’ve longed to visit, or choose from a list of some of destinations ranging from the Super Bowl or Grammy Awards to a Caribbean cruise. The trip is valued at $6,500. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Friends of the Ives Inc., a nonprofit organization that works to preserve the park and the ongoing cultural events that it offers.

Tickets will be drawn at 8 pm the night of Zombiefest, and the winner does not have to be present to win.

*Also locally, the New Milford Harvest Festival will be taking place this Sunday. Main Street and Bank Street will be closed to traffic on October 7 from noon (or probably a little earlier) until at least 5, during the run of the festival.

Admission is free, and there will be two stages of live music (one on Bank Street, the other on the green) featuring THE BLUE YODELS, THE CHOIR BOYS, BEER HOLSTER, RED DIRT ROAD, THE TRAVELING DANBURYS, MIKE LATINI, THE PEARS, DON LOWE, DAVID HERSHEY-WEBB, JONATHAN CHAPMAN, et al.

The five-hour event will also include an extreme pumpkin demonstration, dog costume parade, and face painting, as well as a special train display located in the railroad station at 11 Railroad Street.

*In support of their latest #1 album, DAVE MATTHEWS BAND will bring their East Coast winter tour to Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday, December 8, at 8 pm.

Tickets are $70 and $80, and will go on sale Friday, October 19, at 10 am, through TicketMaster online, through its national toll-free Charge By Phone line (800-745-3000), and outlets.

Tickets will also be available at the Mohegan Sun Box Office starting Saturday, October 20, subject to availability.

*Meanwhile, tickets for a Connecticut stop by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter P!INK, who will bring her first tour in four years to Mohegan Sun Arena on Wednesday, March 27, will be going on sale this week.

They will be available through TicketMaster online, by phone and through outlets at 10 am Friday, October 6, priced at $89.50 and $110. The higher prices include an option for the general admission pit (no chairs, so no seating within the pit, of course).

They will also be available at the casino’s box office beginning at 10 the following morning.

No word on who may be opening when The Truth About Love Tour visits.

Until next week, I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at clubs are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
