Hospital Slates Support, Nutrition Classes, ‘Look Good’ Programs

BRIDGEPORT — Free prostate cancer survivors educational lecture series offered by St Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound is held on the second Tuesday of every month from 4 to 6 pm.

The next session will be Tuesday, October 9, in the Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care Level 3–Medical Oncology Conference Room.

Lynn Roberge, psychotherapist, will be the speaker presenting on “Let’s Talk.” The series provides information, support, and resources to men being treated for prostate cancer, those recovering from treatment and prostate cancer survivors.

No reservations required and there is free parking with validated ticket.

Nutrition Class

St Vincent’s is presenting “Nutrition for Cancer Survivors” on the second Wednesday of every month from 4:30 to 5:30 pm in its Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care adjacent to the hospital. Upcoming dates are October 10 and November 14.

The class is made possible by St Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound, and provides information and resources for healthy eating during and after treatment in addition with dietary tips and modifications to help improve overall wellness and health.

The class will be facilitated by St Vincent’s outpatient nutrition educator Karen Novak, MA, RD, CDE, CD-N, who provides individualized nutrition counseling for outpatients referred by their primary care physicians or endocrinologists on issues of weight management, heart, and other diseases.

 

Look Good Feel Better

St Vincent’s Look Good Feel Better program, co-sponsored by St Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound and the American Cancer Society, next meeting date is Thursday, October 11, from 1 to 3 pm, in the Elizabeth Pfriem SWIM Center for Cancer Care adjacent St Vincent’s.

This meeting is a supportive first step toward renewed self-esteem and self-confidence for women undergoing radiation and/or chemotherapy treatment. By promoting emotional recovery, the program helps women look and feel their best

Reservations are required and lunch is provided along with free parking available in new garage.
