Gas Station Will Impact More Than Neighborhood

To the Editor:

I have written several letters over the last few weeks in opposition to the proposed second gas station to be built in Hawleyville, near exit 9, at the corner of Covered Bridge Road and Route 25.

The first P&Z meeting regarding this issue was on October 3. They could not present that night because the company building the gas station did not notify the neighboring houses. We all went to the meeting and found out that they would now present on Thursday, October 17. Unfortunately, my neighbor and I will not be able to attend this meeting because we need to go to a state-mandated class in connection with the in-home daycare that she owns where I also work. To say we are disappointed is a huge understatement.

Since this letter is being written prior to the Thursday meeting, (so it will appear in this week’s Bee when those who pick up a print copy of the paper earlier that day will see it) I am hoping that there will be a good showing of people opposing this gas station. It doesn’t matter if you don’t live in this area of town. Do you travel in I-84 between exits 8 and 11? Do you drive on Route 25 and Route 6 at almost any time of day? Then this will impact your lives. There will be a new gas station constructed 1/4 mile north of this site where the old Hawleyville deli was. We do not need a second station in this location.

Thank you.
