Aidan Budge Finishes First Overall As Cross Country Teams Race In New Fairfield

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ cross country teams went to New Fairfield to take on the host Rebels and Bunnell of Stratford Bulldogs on October 12.

The teams are slated to race in the South-West Conference championships, at Bethel High, on Wednesday, October 20.

The girls defeated Bunnell 18-43 and lost 30-25 to New Fairfield.

Emily Litke was third in a time of 21:46, Clara D’Amico came in fourth in 22:15, Grace Chiriatti was seventh in 23:12, Britta Petersen came in eighth in 23:26, Ella Hage was 11th in 24:01, Chloe Karnas placed 14th in 24:55, and Alex Norton was 15th in 25:00.

The boys beat Bunnell 15-50 and topped New Fairfield 27-32.

Aidan Budge won his first race of the season, finishing in 18:44 — 31 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.

Newtown had a great pack of runners led by the fifth- through tenth-place finishers: Sam Staubly in 19:32, Colby Harrell in 19:42, Mitchell Schrader in 19:49, Daniel Sibley in a time of 19:50, Stephen Sibley in 19:58, and Jeremy Pankow in 20:07.
