Nell-Ayn (Aloi) Lynch, a social studies teacher at the Newtown Middle School, will be inducted into the Connecticut Women’s Volleyball Hall of Fame on Tuesday, November 20, at the Aqua Turf Country Club in Plantsville.

The Connecticut Women’s Volleyball Hall of Fame honors those who have contributed to the enhancement of women’s volleyball in Connecticut through participation, service, support and achievement.

Nell-Ayn, who guided the Newtown High School volleyball team to its first CIAC Class L state title in 1996 in just her first year at the helm, began her volleyball career back in 1983 at Amity Regional High School.

In 1984, she earned her first varsity letter and in 1986 she was selected as team co-captain. Amity won the CIAC Class L state championships in 1983, 1985 and 1986 and in 1985 and 1985, Nell-Ayn was named to the CIAC All-State team. Other honors she received while at Amity included the Amity High School athlete of the month in 1985 as well as the New Haven Register Athlete of the Week in 1986.

Nell-Ayn was awarded a full athletic scholarship for volleyball at the University of Connecticut, where she started all four years. She was selected the Big East Co-Player of the Week in 1988 and was named co-captain in 1990.

Nell-Ayn has coached with Debbie Chin at the No. 1 Total Volleyball Camp. She returned to Amity in 1992 to assist head volleyball coach Paul Thees. While working there, Amity won the CIAC Class L state championships in 1994 and 1995.

The following year she became the head coach of Newtown High School and with the help of players like Leigh Hoppmeyer, Dee Conley, and Kristen Denninger – led the Nighthawks to the CIAC Class L state championship.

And so that makes SIX state championships Nell-Ayn has been a part of since her first year at Amity High School.

The dinner at the Aqua Turf begins at 6 pm. Anyone interested in attending can call Barbara Startup at 1-860-652-7234 for tickets.
