C.H. Booth Library’s 13th Anniversary Turkey Trot Celebration Committee is thrilled to announce the opening of race registration for runners and walkers for this year’s event, planned for Thanksgiving Thursday morning, November 24, at 7:45 am.

The Newtown 5K Turkey Trot Road Race and Fun Walk is an annual benefit for the library.

Held in the scenic and historic center of Newtown, the Turkey Trot has become a community tradition and highlight for many families over the Thanksgiving weekend. This year’s race is expected to attract over 1,100 runners and walkers as well as family members and loved ones.

Participants will again experience the updated, faster layout for the racecourse through the Borough of Newtown, and spectators can hang out with music and the good company of friends and neighbors.

Revamped in 2019, the course now starts and ends at Newtown Middle School, providing a single point for runners and spectators to gather.

The course has additionally eliminated the climb up Schoolhouse Hill Road, instead taking runners and walkers toward Queen Street via Wendover Road. The result is a course that is mostly flat with a few gentle hills while it loops through local neighborhoods in the center of town.

A map of the course is available at newtownturkeytrot.com.

“The Turkey Trot is an occasion for family and neighbors to come together and experience a fun, competitive event for runners of all ages,” said Elaine Corbo, chair of the library’s development committee. “It’s also an opportunity for participants to support the library, which is a focal point for the community, delivering valuable programs and services.”

Booth Library Director Douglas Lord noted the event “is all about Newtown, and is a major fundraiser for the heart of the community — the library.

“The C.H. Booth Library has been a force for togetherness and unity for almost a hundred years,” Lord added.

Registration is $30 whether signing up for the 5K run or 2.5K fitness walk. Groups of four can register for $100. Registration must be completed by 7 am race day.

Those who register by November 10 will receive a race T-shirt if they choose. T-shirt size options will be limited for registrations received after November 10.

Organizers are planning a post-race awards ceremony this year, where overall and age-group winners will collect prizes.

Full details and registration is available at newtownturkeytrot.com.

Sponsors and volunteers are still welcome. Contact Jordana Bloom at 203-426-4641 for additional information.

Todd Ingersoll stopped in at C.H. Booth Library on October 11, when he delivered a check on behalf of Ingersoll Auto of Danbury, one of this year’s Newtown Turkey Trot Title Sponsors. Booth Library Assistant Director Jennifer Nash accepted the funds. The annual Thanksgiving morning event is a fundraiser for the library. —Bee Photo, Hicks
