Soccer Playoffs Set: Boys Are Top Seed And Girls Head To Bethel

With the regular season having concluded, the South-West Conference soccer tournament seedings are set.

Newtown High School’s boys tied Notre Dame-Fairfield 1-1 on October 20 and blanked Pomperaug of Southbury 2-0 on October 25 in a pair of home contests. Luke Kellerman was assisted by Adam Dissa in the Notre Dame game. John Moxham and Gjin Abazi scored, and Kyle Ruddy had an assist against Pomperaug. Goalkeeper Yarema Stasyshyn helped Newtown post its fifth shutout.

The boys are the SWC’s top seed and will entertain No. 8 Immaculate of Danbury in the SWC quarterfinals on Saturday, October 29 at 3 pm.

The Newtown girls’ squad, coming off a 2-1 loss at Notre Dame-Fairfield on October 21 and a 3-1 setback at Pomperaug of Southbury on October 24, dropped to the No. 6 seed and will visit No. 3 Bethel in the quarterfinals on Saturday, October 29 at 1:30 pm. NHS lost 3-2 to Bethel on October 13.

In the Notre Dame game, Sydney Oltran scored off a Riley Powers corner kick. Against Pomperaug, Skyler Howard was assisted by Powers. Goalkeeper Ryann Heim-Sherwood made six saves.
