Vote Republican On November 5

To The Editor:

This Tuesday, November 5th, is Election Day, and most of our town government is up for election or reelection. While my seat, along with the entire Board of Selectmen, is uncontested, there are competitive seats on the Legislative Council, the Board of Education, the Board of Finance, P&Z, and many other boards and commissions.

Historically, voter turnout is low when the top of the ticket is not contested. This gives a minority of voters undue influence on the direction of our town for the ensuing two years.

The Republican party has worked hard to field 30 excellent candidates who will offer a much-needed diversity of opinion as well as an important check on one party control on critical boards and commissions.

Newtown continues to be a great place to live for people of all ages, but it will face many challenges over the coming term. Will the governor attempt to balance the state budget by foisting its pension obligations onto Newtown taxpayers again? Are we spending our tax dollars in ways that best provide an education to our children? Are Newtown’s property tax rates commensurate with the services our government delivers? Republicans ask these questions and seek to answer them through policies that move the town forward at a price that keeps our community growing.

Newtown Republicans believe in quality education, responsible development, fiscal responsibility, and a sustainable community. Please come out and vote Republican on Tuesday, November 5th; please tell your friends and neighbors to do the same. Let’s make sure all our voices are heard on Election Day.

Best regards,

Jeff Capeci
