Hit And Run Incident

Newtown Police report Jennifer Cannerelli, 50, of Newtown, operating a 2015 Honda Pilot, was traveling eastbound on Cedar Hill Road at 5:27 pm October 8. She attempted to take a right turn onto Pebble Lane when an unidentified vehicle traveling westbound on Cedar Hill Road swiped the back driver’s side of her vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Cannerelli’s vehicle was not towed.

Rear-Ended On South Main

Newtown Police report Barry Buzzell, 58, of Stratford, operating a 2016 GMC Savana, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 8:46 pm October 11. He was traveling behind a 2007 Acura Max Tech operated by Jose Melendez, 41, of Bridgeport. Melendez stopped in traffic. Buzzell did not stop in time, and rear-ended Melendez’s vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Buzzell was issued an infraction for following too close.

Honda Hits Jeep

Newtown Police report Anna Plevka, 85, of Newtown, operating a 2020 Honda HR-V, was traveling on Queen Street at 10:29 am October 14. She was traveling behind a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Andrew Sirois, 42, of Sandy Hook. Plevka attempted to go around the right side of Sirois’s vehicle and turn right in front of Sirois, when the right rear door of the Honda struck the left front corner of the Jeep.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was mentioned in the report.

Parking Lot Collision

Newtown Police report Mary Valentino, 48, of Clinton Corner, N.Y., operating a 2019 Subaru Legacy, was reversing from a parking spot in a lot on Mt Pleasant Road at 12:39 pm October 17. A 2014 Volkswagen Tiguan owned by William Cebek of Danbury was parked in an adjacent space. The front passenger bumper of the Subaru hit the rear driver’s side bumper of the Volkswagen vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Struck Deer

Newtown Police report Keira Maddox, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2014 GMC Terrain, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 9:59 pm October 18 when a deer entered the roadway. The front right end of Maddox’s vehicle struck the deer.

The driver was not injured. The vehicle was not towed.

No enforcement action was taken.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police report Alejandro Diaz, 51, of Brookfield, operating a 2015 Honda Civic, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 12:38 am October 19. Diaz’s vehicle left the east side of the roadway, hitting an embankment before colliding with a road sign.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Diaz was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Both Drivers Cited

Newtown Police report Amaguaya Allauca, 17, of Danbury, operating a 2016 Ford Fusion, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 4:13 pm October 19. Michael Adkins, 37, of Fairfield, operating a 2017 GMC Sierra, was traveling westbound on Church Hill Road and came to a stop for the stop sign at the intersection with Main Street.

Adkins left the stop sign and was heading toward West Street. Allauca passed two stopped vehicles in the southbound travel lane on the right, and the left front section of the Ford made contact with the right side of the GMC.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

Allauca was issued an infraction for passing on the right. Adkins was issued an infraction for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

Rear-Ended At Intersection

Newtown Police report Meghan Maclaren, 16, of New Milford, operating a 2015 Subaru Impreza, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 3:21 pm October 21. She was traveling behind a 2019 Audi Q7 operated by Karen Ortner, 45, of Sandy Hook. Ortner stopped in traffic at the Walnut Tree Hill Road intersection to wait to turn left. Maclaren was unable to stop in time and the front left corner of the Subaru made contact with the right rear corner of the Audi.

No injuries were reported. Both vehicles were towed.

MaClaren was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Passing On Right

Newtown Police report Cameron White, 29, of Bethel, operating a 2000 Grumman LLV-A, was traveling eastbound on Berkshire Road at 12:25 pm October 22. He was traveling behind a 2022 Ram Pro operated by Louis Henderson, 48, of New Haven. Henderson came to a stop to wait to make a turn onto Holly Lane, and White attempted to pass on the right. The driver’s side mirror of the Grumman hit the passenger side mirror of the Ram.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

White was given a verbal warning for passing on the right.

Criminal Mischief Charge

Newtown Police report Ari Schwartz, 23, of Newtown, was arrested at 9:58 pm October 22 and charged with third-degree criminal mischief and disorderly conduct. He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of October 23.
