Riders Enjoy NBLA Hunter Pace

The Newtown Bridle Lands Association held its Annual Frost On The Pumpkin Hunter Pace in the scenic area of Boggs Hill and Mt Nebo roads on October 28.

Horseback riders of a variety of ages competed in Hunt, Western, and Pleasure divisions, vying to finish the closest to the pre-clocked pace time for each ride.

Many of the 50-plus participants dressed in costume and came with their horses decked out in Halloween disguises. Some of the horses, recognizing that Hurricane Sandy was on her way, were a little bit spooked at times, but otherwise enjoyed the experience.

The winners of the Hunt Division were Shari Rossi and Sara Eastright, who completed the course in 1:22.57, just three minutes and 31 seconds off the pace time set at 1:26.28. Runners-up were Deb Higgins and Corie Saumell in 1:31.11.

The Western Division winners were Lucy Prybylski and Lora Darby, who finished in 1:30.34, just four minutes and six seconds off the pace of 1:36.28. Ned Schankman and Melissa Santos were second in 1:42.40.

In the Pleasure Division, Gisela Greitzer and Nancy Paganelli took the top spot in 1:45.05, only one minute and 23 seconds off the pace of 1:46.28. Runners-up were Kristen Zawatski and Brenda Majeski.

Taylor Reniihan and Margaret Heilshorn were winners of the Frost On the Pumpkin costume contest. The post pace fall luncheon was catered by Tambascio’s and Bethel’s Billy Michael provided live music.
