SCORE Hosting Free Sessions On Small Business Success, Child Care

EASTON and Shelton — The regional chapter of SCORE is hosting two free workshops November 6. The first, “Twelve Steps To Building Your Own Successful Business,” will be conducted at the Easton Public Library, 691 Morehouse Road, Tuesday, November 6, from 6 to 7:15 pm.

This program is designed to benefit anyone looking to build a successful business, either full-time or part-time, or who has an existing small business that needs to grow.

The session will explore the 12 things individuals need to know to develop a successful business plan. This fast-paced, entertaining program will walk attendees through the 12 steps to building a successful small business, and how to solve the most pressing business challenges.

Topics covered will include:

*The four steps to building a marketing plan;

*The two reasons (there are only two) why anyone buys anything;

*The four types of competitors, and how to develop a winning competitive strategy;

*Whether or not you need business partners, and how to pick them;

*The five business advisors all small businesses need;

*The two places (there are only two) where you can find money to grow your business;

*The two ways (there are only two) you can grow an existing business; and

*How to deal with business risks and threats before they become overwhelming.

The session will be led by Cliff Ennico, a leading expert on the legal and tax issues facing small businesses and the author of 15 books, including Small Business Survival Guide. During the 1990s he hosted the PBS television series MoneyHunt, the first reality TV show for entrepreneurs.

Also on Tuesday, November 6, SCORE is hosting a workshop on “Creating a Successful Child Care Business” from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce, 12 Progress Drive, Shelton.

Having a successful child care business is often a case of knowing where and what resources are available. This seminar reviews the correct resources available, and provides an opportunity to learn all the information one will need to start or grow a day care business.

*Learn about the Connecticut state regulations and licensing, free food programs for children.

*State paid child care for qualified children.

*Where to find money to fund a day care business.

*Where to go to get help in running a day care as a business.

The program will be facilitated by Dennis Brown, vice president of business counseling for Connecticut Community Investment Corporation (CTCIC), a private nonprofit that is a priority certified development company.

The program includes speakers from five organizations who will answer most questions that one might have about opening or running a child care business.
