Update: A correction has been made. Tyler Griffin made all five extra point attempts.

Newtown High School’s football team rebounded from a tough loss at Shelton the week before to defeat host Weston 35-28 on November 5.

The Nighthawks did not take long to get going with Caleb Smith scoring on a 91 yard kickoff return into the end zone for a touchdown. Weston answered to tie the score before Newtown quarterback Dylan Magazu’s two yard TD run got the lead back.

Weston again tied things, Magazu connected with Eric Gray on an eight yard TD play for a 21-14 lead which Newtown carried into the half.

Smith had a five yard rushing score, and Magazu reached the end zone on a 63 yard run, pushing the lead to 35-14. Tyler Griffin had a solid night with extra point kicks.

Weston clawed back and pulled to within a touchdown late in the game.

The Nighthawks will host New Fairfield on Friday, November 12, at 7 pm.
