Opening Night In Newtown: Connecticut Choral Society To Perform 40th Anniversary ‘Celebration Of Bach, Vivaldi, And Handel’

The Connecticut Choral Society will perform “A Celebration of Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel,” part of the choral society’s 40th anniversary concert season.

Three performances of the program are planned including Friday, November 18, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown.

“A Celebration of Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel unites singers, renowned soloists, and instrumentalists in works featuring Bach’s only composition for two violins, Concerto No 3 in D minor, Vivaldi’s joyful Gloria, and “Hallelujah” from Handel’s Messiah.

Under the direction of Eric Dale Knapp, “An Evening of Bach, Vivaldi, and Handel” will feature organist Linda Sweetman-Waters, harpsichordist Max Vladimiroff, violinists Yevgenia and Sander Strenger, soprano Kristen Plumley, mezzo-soprano Jessica Grigg, OrchestraNexus, and the Connecticut Choral Society Festival Chorus. The artists, choirs, and singers from across the region will join as one voice to celebrate the musical beauty of the beloved composers.

The Newtown performance will begin at 7:30 pm. The church is at 36 Main Street.

Saturday, November 19, will be at North Congregational Church, 11 Main Street North (Route 6) in Woodbury, at 3 pm.

The finale is then planned for Sunday, November 20, at 3 pm, at Valley Presbyterian Church, 21 West Whisconier Road in Brookfield.

Tickets are $25 for each of the three performances, with general admission seating. They may be purchased online through CTchoralsociety.com or at the door.
