St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church will host an Advent Mission for three nights next month, Monday through Wednesday, December 5-7.

“Mercy: The Divine Hotspot” will be led by Fr Bill Garrott, OP, who will also celebrate Mass at 9 am each morning of the mission, and will also be the homilist during the weekend Masses of December 3-4.

Fr Garrott, who was born and raised in Hagerstown, Md., is the youngest of eight children. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Mount St Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md.

Fr Garrott entered the Order of Preachers in 1988 and was ordained for the Dominicans in 1994. He is a member of the Province of St Joseph based in New York City.

He earned a master’s degree in spiritual theology from the Angelicum in Rome. He has served as a parochial vicar, campus minister, and director of vocations, and has preached over 200 parish missions throughout the United States and Canada using his musical abilities. His home base is St Dominic’s Priory in Washington, D.C.

Each of the three mission nights will begin at 7 pm, with the Holy Rosary led by Fr Garrott. They will continue with Fr Garrott preaching for approximately one hour, featuring musical interludes of popular music that is tied to a particular teaching. At the end of each evening Fr Garrott will be available for individual reconciliation.

In addition, on Monday Fr Garrott will offer a special blessing using the Oil of St Joseph, on Tuesday Adoration of The Blessed Sacrament, and Wednesday a special blessing and veneration of a first-class relic of St John Paul II from May 13, 1981.

Registration is not required for the Advent Mission. There is also no fee to attend; however, a free-will offering will be welcome in support of Fr Garrott’s order.

St Rose Church is at 46 Church Hill Road.
