The local Salvation Army unit is still in need of volunteer bell ringers for its Red Kettle Campaign.

Donations from the Salvation Army go to help residents in need in a variety of ways.

Newtown Director of Human Services Natalie Jackson said that last year, “Social Services was able to assist 43 Newtown residents for a total $15,159.28 in financial assistance with Salvation Army funds.

“This included 15 residents with assistance with Eversource, two residents with auto assistance, 11 residents with emergency rent assistance, one resident with food through Meals on Wheels, three residents with medical/dental costs, [and] 11 residents with fuel assistance.”

She added that fuel and energy assistance were both shown to have the most significant need, totaling $8,149.

To volunteer for bell ringing, contact Salvation Army member Anna Wiedemann at aroosterw@yahoo.com or by calling 203-417-3004. People can also register online by visiting Sign Up Genius at bit.ly/newtownbellringer.
