To the Editor:

A big thank you goes to all five fire companies of Newtown, under the organizational leadership of Karin Halstead, for their support and manpower in conducting the Thanksgiving food drive. Once again, it was a huge success. They collected 55 turkeys, 72 boxes of food, and $2,536 in cash and gift cards in one day thanks to the generosity of the Big Y and Stop & Shop customers. We would also like to thank our donors who support us on a regular basis throughout the year. A special thank you to our anonymous friend that continues to supply us with a large quantity of fresh turkeys at Thanksgiving.

Each year, this food drive is exciting day in Newtown. We are grateful to our volunteers and the special people of Newtown. My Place Restaurant donated pizza for our volunteers, and Dunkin’ Donuts supplied the coffee to keep us going. Our freezers and shelves are full and ready to supply food to those in need. We could not do it without the help and generosity all of you. Thank you, Newtown!
