MIDDLETOWN, CONN. â Itâs Only Natural Restaurant will present the photographic works of Lucy Sander Sceery through February 1.
For the past 12 years the tobacco sheds that dot the landscape of the Connecticut River Valley and the netting that shades the plants have been subjects for Sceeryâs art. She views the sheds as giant geometric configurations, peacefully guarding secrets and stories from the past.
Sceery uses infrared film to achieve a soft painterly effect, then prints of fiber-based paper and tones with selenium. Some of the photographic images of the netting are then transferred onto silk chiffon and using a thermal transfer method. After this the artist stitches with silver thread areas of the image she wants to highlight.
An opening reception will take place Friday, December 6, from 5 to 7 pm. The restaurant is at 386 Main Street, Main Street Market. Hours are Tuesday to Thursday, 11:30 am to 9 pm, and Friday and Saturday, 11:30 am to 10 pm. For information, 860-346-9210.
