Newtown Board Of Realtors

Names 2009 Realtor Of The Year

By Nancy K. Crevier

Robert Morey, broker/owner of RE/Max Enterprise, with offices in Newtown, Bethel, and Ridgefield, was recently selected by the Newtown Board of Realtors as the 2009 Realtor of the Year.

“I’m honored to be named Realtor of the Year,” said Mr Morey, “because of the caliber of people who are realtors in Newtown making that decision. I’m so pleased by the quality of people in town who choose to do what I do. It’s a good group, who are good to work with. They are honorable people and ethical, and it is a privilege to work with them.”

The Realtor of the Year is not awarded based on the number of sales, said Mr Morey, who most recently served as 2009 president of the Newtown Board of Realtors, but rather is chosen by his or her peers for service to the board, to the members, and to clients.

Mr Morey has been an active realtor since the 1980s in southwestern Connecticut. He has served as officer manager for Coldwell Banker in Danbury, Monroe, and Bethel; for William Pitt in Newtown in 2004, and then opened the William Pitt/Sotheby office in Bethel and Southbury, before opening his own business.

He feels that his adherence to the Newtown Board of Realtors code of ethics was one more reason he was awarded the 2009 Realtor of the Year honor. “I am fair in all of my dealings, and I understand the marketplace. It has been very volatile in recent years, and it is important to understand that in order to help consumers with what is sometimes the most significant purchase or sale of their lives,” said Mr Morey. Realizing that a home is more than just a commodity is also important, he said.

“I believe in the American dream of owning a home,” Mr Morey said, and he is very pleased that the tax credit to first-time buyers and the subsequent extension, and tax credits to other buyers, will help people achieve that dream.

A member of the Newtown Economic Development Commission, and the Newtown Rotary, Mr Morey is a champion of the town, he said. “Like most area towns, the market here has had fewer sales and lower prices lately. But Newtown has many things going for it — a great sense of community, it is esthetically pleasing, there are a variety of housing options, great schools and recreational opportunities, and tremendous access to other points,” he said. It is the accessibility of Newtown that makes it especially attractive to both businesses and single-family homeowners, added Mr Morey, and that accessibility is one of the key reasons he believes that Newtown will break out of the low economic cycle in which it presently finds itself.

“Newtown is a desirable place to be. If you’re in a position to buy, it’s a wonderful time,” Mr Morey said. “It’s a well-priced market place, sellers are motivated, and we have low interest rates. Newtown is a nice place to be a grown up, and a nice place to be a kid.”
