Ralph Henry Loveland

Lifelong Resident Was World War II Veteran

Ralph Henry Loveland, 93, a lifelong resident of Newtown, died December 1, in Bethel Health Care. He was born March 17, 1916, a son of Ethel (Bartow) and Grover H. Loveland. Mr Loveland was the husband for 49 years of the late Esther (Pohlman) Loveland.

Mr Loveland served in World War II as a Navy gunner in both the Atlantic and Pacific, and was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

He retired as a line foreman from the United Illuminating Co. of New Haven after 32 years of service. He was a Mason, belonging to Washington Lodge in Monroe, and was a member of the Stevenson Volunteer Fire Department for many years.

A farmer at heart, Mr Loveland ran a milk business before the war and throughout his life enjoyed raising livestock and cultivating the earth.

Three sons, Ralph G. Loveland of Newtown, Robert W. Loveland of Wichita, Kan., and Russell G. Loveland of Danbury; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren survive him. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Keith; and by two brothers, Harold and Earle.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services Saturday, December 5, at 10 am, in the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Zoar Cemetery. Calling hours are scheduled for Friday, December 4, from 5 to 7 pm, in the funeral home.
