 Services for Newtown seniors are sponsored by the Commission on Aging and are available at the Multi-Purpose Building on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook. For more information about programs offered at the Senior Center call 270-4310.

For information on federal, state and community resources available to seniors, call 270-4330 or 270-4315. Newtown’s Municipal Agent for the Elderly is Alisa Awalt. She can be reached at 270-4330.

You may drop in at the Senior Center on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook weekdays between 10 am and 4 pm. A hot meal is served at noon for which you must reserve three days in advance.

Newtown has daily door-to-door mini-bus service Monday through Friday. Monday from 1 to 3 pm the mini-bus will go to Sand Hill Plaza. Fridays, the bus will alternate going to Danbury Fair Mall and to Berkshire Shopping Plaza. Cost is 60 cents each way for the Sand Hill Plaza trip, 75 cents each way for out of town. Call 748-2511 TWO DAYS IN ADVANCE to book a ride and get the out-of-town Friday schedule.

 

News For Week of December 13-17

CHRISTMAS BINGO is Wednesday, December 15. Come on down and enjoy our tree, fun, prizes and surprises.

Please join us every Monday for BIBLE STUDY. We meet at 1 pm.

BOOK EXCHANGE: Put one in, take one out… Come browse our Book Exchange shelves and trade your good condition paperbacks or hardcovers.

A BEGINNER’S TAP DANCING CLASS is being started by Pat Babbage. Call 270-4310 to sign up. Any hard-soled shoes are fine.

CHRISTMAS CRAFTS — Every Friday at 10 am join us for a variety of projects. Crafts include trees, angels, Santa, etc. A small fee will be charged to cover the cost of materials, and a schedule will be posted. The schedule must be followed. This week we’ll make a ribbon pinecone ornament and marbleized glass ornament. Please call 270-4310 to sign up.

ANYONE INTERESTED IN A PIANO/KEYBOARD CLASS is invited to call the center, 270-4310. All levels are welcome.

NEW HORIZONS meets the first Tuesday of the month. The next meeting is Tuesday, January 4.

THE BEREAVEMENT GROUP meets each Monday for the newly bereaved. It is totally private and there is no charge. Call 270-4310 to sign up.

The London and Paris trip is filled; there is now a waiting list. Bermuda and Ireland info is still available. Day trip booklets will be available early next year.

Come join us in fabulous New Orleans. Information is now available at the center. We are departing September 27 for five fun-filled days.

 

 

Menu For Week Of December 13-17

Reservations must be made three days in advance.

Meals are subject to change.

Meals include milk and margarine.

Monday: Baked ham w/ gravy, sweet potato, peas, grapefruit juice, rye bread, oatmeal cookie;

Tuesday: Vegetable soup, unsalted crackers, stuffed peppers, corn, French cut green beans, whole wheat bread, apricots;

Wednesday: Meatloaf w/ gravy, whipped potatoes, broccoli, tossed salad w/ dressing, garlic bread, pudding w/ topping;

Thursday: BBQ chicken, macaroni & cheese, Italian green beans, soft cornbread, pears;

Friday: Egg drop soup, pork chow mein, white rice, chow mein noodles, soy sauce, sherbet, fortune cookies.

 

Activities Schedule, December 6-10

Monday: AM Pinochle/Bridge, walking, art class; PM yoga, Bible study group meeting;

Tuesday: AM Pinochle, exercise; PM needlecraft, bowling;

Wednesday: AM line dancing, Pinochle; PM Christmas Bingo;

Thursday: AM exercise, Pinochle, PM crafts, bowling;

Friday: AM Christmas crafts, sewing/quilting group; PM knitting.

 Remember, you must call three days in advance to book a meal or a ride, 270-4310; the Senior Bus, 748-2511.
