Stand Up To Sandy Hook Lies

To the Editor:

After seeing the “Sandy Hook Remembered” special on CNN, I ask, and I’m sure this is easier said than done — but still, I ask those who have gone into hiding because of this Alex Jones and his brutal lies; please don’t do that.

Not wanting to speak publicly because of grief is one thing. Totally right and understandable. And if, for some of you, that’s why you haven’t said much over the years, that’s fine. You know you’re entitled. But keeping quiet because of lies is sending a message to Alex Jones and his followers that they win. That they’re right. Is that any kind of tribute to your children? Or any kind of good deed for yourselves? Please don’t do it! Please don’t let Jones’ lies hide you or silence you. Hold onto your faith! Hold onto your strength! Keep your courage! Stand up!

If you sometimes feel the need to get in front of a camera and share a happy memory of the child you lost that day, do it! Like everybody in this country, you’re within your First Amendment rights. And if some people choose to believe an out of control, inhumane nut like Alex Jones instead of the truth, that’s their loss. Not yours.

Think of what an example they’re setting for their children by believing him. As long as you don’t let lies keep you down and let the memory of your child make you keep trying, you can’t lose. Even though, needless to say, it may feel impossible sometimes.

My prayers are with you all.
