Meals On Wheels Volunteers Given Special Recognition At Breakfast
The undercroft at Trinity Episcopal Church on Main Street was bustling with more than 50 of the 120 Newtown volunteer drivers for Meals on Wheels Tuesday morning, May 9. In recognition of the many hours the drivers donate to deliver meals every Monday through Friday to nearly 20 recipients all over town, Ashlar of Newtown and the board of directors provided a complimentary breakfast and coffee to the volunteers. The breakfast foods and coffee were prepared by Ashlar of Newtown, which has been in partnership with Meals On Wheels since 1995.
First Selectman Herb Rosenthal and director of Ashlar Tom Gunther were on hand to praise the volunteers, many of whom have served the nonprofit organization for five years or more. âWe are pleased and proud to be your partner,â said Mr Gunther.
Receiving a special certificate honoring 30 years of driving service to Meals On Wheels was Peg Forbell.
Ed Forbell and Ingrid Meier each received certificates in honor of 20 years of service. Special recognition was awarded Ken Wilkinson, Pat Stroud and Ken Stroud, who served in various capacities to the Meals On Wheels organization for 20 years.
Ellyn Gehrett was recognized for 15 years of service.
For ten years of driving service, certificates were awarded to Laura Hewitt, Lynn Bassett, Marg Studley, Barbara Webb, and Alex and Marjorie Aitchison.
