âWomen Make Artâ Screening,
Exhibit & Discussion At Mattatuck
WATERBURY â Mattatuck Museum Arts and History enter will host the Connecticut chapter of Womenâs Caucus for Art (WCA-CT) on Thursday, March 23, from 7 to 9 pm, for a screening of a new documentary.
Women Make Art, a film about WCA-CT, produced by award-winning independent filmmaker Lisa Seidenberg, will be followed by a slide presentation and discussion of four WCA artists: Gloria Santoyo Ruenitz, Anne Doris-Eisner, Jeannie Thomma and Diana Chamberlain.
Ms Santoyo Ruenitz is the current president of WCA-CT and a conceptual mixed-media artist. She considers herself a storyteller and constantly uses her photographs, found objects and words, as well as the emotional and verbal communications of her life. Her work has been exhibited in Connecticut and New York.
Ms Thomma is the newsletter editor for WCA-CT and is co-owner of zoë & floyd gallery in Seymour. She exhibits fiber art and mixed media work across the United States and also teaches. She is currently working on the idea of memory through mixed and recycled materials, and uses vintage dresses as a symbol for memory.
Ms Chamberlain works in porcelain clay. With her sculptural forms, she explores the symbolism of dresses as a purveyor of information about gender, age, aspirations, social class, and individual expression. Architecture is an equally strong interest.
Ms Doris-Eisner is a full-time art teacher at Amity Regional High School in Woodbridge, and also produces and exhibits her large, acrylic, gouache and graphite works on paper. Using unique forms in nature, she draws parallels between the experience and the natural world.
Refreshments will be served. A $5 donation is suggested.
