People’s Bank Slates Senior Appreciation Day

In a joint effort, People’s Bank and the Newtown Triad program will hold a “Senior Appreciation Day” for senior citizens at the two local People’s Bank branches on Monday, December 8.

The Triad program aids senior citizens with law enforcement issues, including personal safety issues.

Senior Appreciation Day will take place Monday at People’s Bank in Super Stop & Shop at Sand Hill Plaza from 10 am to noon, and at People’s Bank at 6 Queen Street near the Big Y from 1 to 3 pm.

Also during these times, an officer of the Newtown Police Department will be available at the two People’s Bank branches for questions. The police representative will be speaking about holiday safety for seniors, and will touch specifically on how seniors can protect their wallets and purses from theft when in a crowded place, and how they should deal with unwanted phone or door-to-door solicitations.

Police will explain the “beacon light” program to seniors. The specialized light bulbs are used as flashing signals to attract emergency service workers to residences after calls for help have been placed. Beacon lights will be available at the event.

Bank employees will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns that seniors might have concerning the use of the ATM (automatic teller machine), or the use of the Express Plus ID system at the teller windows.

Both the ATM and the Express Plus ID are automatic, computerized systems that greatly facilitate the banking process for those who are comfortable with their use. Recognizing that some seniors are not accustomed to using ATMs or the Express Plus system, People’s Bank would like to offer help and assistance during the designated hours.

At the end of Senior Appreciation Day, there will be a drawing for a $25 gift certificate. All seniors are welcome to participate, even though they might not be People’s Bank customers. Refreshments will be served at both locations.
