Newtown High School Animal Concerns Club Parent Advisor Lorrie Silber had a number of news items to share with club members on Thursday, June 9, at the high school club met for the final time in the 2010-11 academic year.
Monica Roberto and Leyla Nichols of the Animal Center also attended the last meeting, and received a $50 donation from the club to go toward Newtownâs Park and Bark dog park.
The $50 donation was one of multiple donations the club was able to make, thanks to money raised and donated by the Newtown High School Art Club through the sale of handmade mugs, according to Ms Silber.
Before receiving the donation, Ms Nichols reminded the club members that with summer coming up, The Animal Center now provides foster homes for dogs. Most of the time, Ms Nichols explained, the dogs and puppies, and every family that opens their home as a foster home receives all the necessary equipment, including food, to provide for the puppies until long-term homes can be found.
âWeâre always looking for fosters,â said Ms Nichols.
Anyone interested in learning more about being a foster home for The Animal Center can go to animalcenter.org or e-mail Ms Nichols directly at leyla@animalcenter.org.
During the meeting, Ms Silber also announced the club donated $50 to the Humane Society of the United States, located Utah.
Another donation Ms Silber said, sponsored a turkey named âBubblesâ through Farm Sanctuary, a farm in Watkins Glen, N.Y., that cares for hundreds of animals. The $150 to sponsor Bubbles, was rescued from a factory farm. covers the cost of her upkeep for one year.
