avv/gs set 1-15 #684159
HUNTINGTON, N.Y. â The Heckscher Museum of Art will present âAnsel Adams & Edwin Land: Art, Science and Invention, Photographs from the Polaroid Collectionâ on view March 31âJune 30.
Ansel Adams is widely recognized for the aesthetic and technical qualities of his photographs and for the central role he played in the acceptance of photography as fine art. Edwin Land was a young scientist in Cambridge, Mass., who pioneered the invention of instant film and cameras in the 1940.
When Land invited Adams to the Polaroid factory in 1948, it was the beginning of a long friendship and creative partnership between the two that brought about the merging of science and art.
The exhibit features many one-of-a-kind black-and-white Polaroids made by Adams as well as correspondence between the photographer and the scientist. The exhibition features approximately 80 vintage Adams prints, including some of his most famous images, such as âMoonrise, Hernandezâ and âNew Mexico.â
The museum is at 2 Prime Avenue. For information, www.heckscher.org or 631-351-3250.
