Cherished Friends And Family

Susan McCauley Unwin, 74, of Monroe, died May 6 at St Vincent’s Medical Center, with her family by her side. Mrs Unwin was born in Bridgeport, April 21, 1934, and was the daughter of Milton and Margaret Collie McCauley, Sr.

She is survived by three brothers, David McCauley and his wife, Ingrid, of Newtown, Jim McCauley and his wife, Carol, of Beacon Falls, and Milton McCauley and his wife, Audrey, of Trumbull; two sisters, Betsy Ross and her husband, Tony, of Stratford and Martha Anderson and her husband, George, of Airmont, N.Y.; two sons, Fred Unwin, Jr, of Lakewood, Ohio, and Gregg Unwin of Tucson, Ariz.; one daughter, Sandra Wright of Easton; four grandchildren, Jessica and Nicole Unwin of Arizona, Katie and her husband, John Toppel, of Oregon, and Dan Wright and his wife, Shari, of Newtown; and several nieces, nephews, and friends.

Mrs Unwin was a graduate of Stratford High School, Class of 1952. She was a retired dental assistant for Dr Martin Waldman of Fairfield and had previously worked at the Spinning Wheel Restaurant for many years, where she was loved by all who met her.

She loved knitting Christmas stockings and reproducing old patterns of Christmas stockings, which she made for her vast number of friends and family. She also enjoyed cryptograms and crossword puzzles. Her greatest pleasure in life was to be surrounded by her cherished family and friends, and traveling with her beloved sister, Betsy.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 31, at 11 am, in The Parish of Christ’s Church, 59 Church Road, Easton.

In lieu of flowers, those who so desire may contribute to The Nature Conservancy Sunny Valley Preserve, 8 Sunny Valley Lane, New Milford CT 06776 or Christ’s Church, 59 Church Road Easton CT 06612, in her memory.

The Galello-Luchansky Funeral Home, 2220 Main Street, Stratford, has been entrusted with arrangements.
