*I am not happy. It was bad enough I lived through a Valentine's Day without a valentine this year, but now I'm unhappy with the boys from New Jersey who call themselves BON JOVI.

Jon Bon Jovi, et al, unveiled the newest dates last week of the North American One Wild Night 2001 Tour⦠and someone seems to have forgotten to include Hartford on the itinerary. Have we done something to offend these guys?
The tour as it stands right now has the band overseas, concluding dates in Japan, until mid-April. On April 18 the band returns to stages in the US, picking up the One Wild Night Tour with a show in Phoenix. Blah blah blah, yadda yadda yadda ⦠dates through May, June and into July⦠when the band gets into the Pennsylvania area.
There is a show on July 21 at Pittsburghâs Post Gazette Pavilion, the following night at Hersheypark Stadium, then a jump up to Mansfield, Mass., for a show at the Tweeter Center on July 24, back down to Philadelphiaâs E Center the following night, and then Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., on July 27. Hello??! Whatâs missing from this equation? Connecticut, completely!!
*At least MARK KNOPFLER still seems to like Connecticut and his fans who call this state home.
Knopfler has lined up a coast-to-coast tour of North American that is scheduled to begin on April 23 in Boston, according to a release last week. The outing will mark the first North American tour by the former DIRE STRAITS frontman in more than a decade, and is a trip to support his latest album, Sailing to Philadelphia, a September 2000 release on the Warner Bros. label. Sailing to Philadelphia features guest appearances from Van Morrison, James Taylor, and Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Gifford, the primary singers and songwriters (and vocalists and guitarists) for Squeeze.
Following the kick-off show at the Orpheum in Boston, Knopfler will be playing the following night at the ctnow.com Oakdale Theatre in Wallingford. Tickets for Boston went on sale last weekend and have already sold out; the Connecticut show is slated to go on sale March 10.
Tickets will be available at three levels â $35, $45 and $65 â which does not include a $3.50 facility fee and any applicable taxes. Showtime is 7:30 and there is no opener listed by SFX, the tourâs promoter, as of February 21.
*I finally have some details this week concerning a BRYAN ADAMS concert at The Warner Theatre. Adams has been on the road for over a year now, supporting his 12th release, a greatest hits package from Universal Records called, appropriately, The Best of Me. The end-of-the-decade collection includes two new songs, the Beatlesque title song and the dance track âDonât Give Up.â I would imagine he is also traveling as one of a trio â Adams has been touring since 1999 with guitarist Keith Scott and drummer Mickey Curry.
The multi-Grammy Award-winning pop-rocker will be in Torrington on Friday, March 30. Showtime is 8 pm, and tickets are available at $34.50 and $44.50 apiece. If you are interested in this show, contact the theatreâs box office at 860/489-7180 or send an email to warner@cttel.net.
*Just a reminder that tomorrow nightâs all-ages MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES show at Toadâs Place is being billed as an âearly show.â Whatever that means in club lingo⦠Tickets, which are $15, are still available and Cooter and Lost City Angels both have opening sets.
New on the calendar of that New Haven club is a March 12 date with HENRY ROLLINS, who has a brand-new release this week. Rollins is giving fans his latest helping of spoken-word material with Quarterstick. LiveDaily is calling the album a âscatological disc [featuring] the muscle-bound punk-rock icon riffing on everything from his disdain for poets to former President Clinton to his travels through Europe.â
The album was recorded over two months, during which Rollins performed at the same club every Wednesday night for one month and then every Tuesday night for the second month. Only 64 minutes of work was used for the completed release, leaving quite a bit of leftover material.
Following a spoken word tour â which has already begun and continues into mid-April â future 2001 plans include the next ROLLINS BAND release (expected some time in May) and a subsequent tour with the full group.
Tickets for Rollins at Toadâs Place, which is also going to be an all-ages show, are $15 in advance or $17.50 at the door. Toadâs Place tickets are available from the clubâs box office in person, over the phone at 203/562-5589, at any TicketMaster outlet or from TicketMaster.com.
Also new at Toadâs Place is a May 4 show by a group calling itself AMPHIBIAN. Phish lyricist Tom Marshall is featured in this band.
Until next week, Iâll be seeing you... on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks, c/o Bee Publishing Co., 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown 06470, or shannon@thebee.com; or call The Bee office at 426-3141.
